BERLIN- Shocking facts has been unearthed by a German historian that world’s largest news agency, Associated Press (AP) worked in collaboration with the Nazi party 1930’s and supported Hitler to spread the Nazi agenda to whole world.
When the Nazi regime kick started in 1933, they began strict image control campaign and forced the international media outlets to close their German bureaus the reason being continued employment of Jews within their agencies.
Only New York based AP managed to stay in Germany and continued its operations till US entered the World War II. In this situation AP became the sole source of information about Nazi Germany to the whole world.
But how did AP managed to reach this position? The answer has been unearthed lately. AP surrendered to everything Hitler demanded. To operate within the Nazi state, media was forced to submit to the so-called Schriftleitergesetz (editor’s law), which required media to publish nothing “calculated to weaken the strength of the Reich abroad or at home”.
According to the report in The Guardian, This law required AP to hire reporters who also worked for the Nazi party’s propaganda division. One of the four photographers employed by the Associated Press in the 1930s, Franz Roth, was a member of the SS paramilitary unit’s propaganda division, whose photographs were personally chosen by Hitler.
AP also allowed the Nazi regime to use its photo archives for its virulently anti-Semitic propaganda literature.
So, apparently AP was the source of information regarding Hitler’s Germany but in actual it obscured the reality of totalitarian regime and thus allowed for the easier consolidation of power for the Nazi Germany.
So, there was AP’s contribution as well in the Nazi Germany’s several misdoings.
