Sheikh Ansar takes oath as first mayor of Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Sheikh Ansar Aziz on Friday took oath as first capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad, TheNewsTribe.com reported.

The ruling party’s Chaudhry Riffat Javed, Syed Zeeshan Ali Naqvi and Muhammad Azam Khan also took oath as deputy mayor of Islamabad.

In election of mayor, Aziz secured 49 votes against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Raja Khurram Nawaz, who received only 26 votes.

No particular excitement or upsets were expected in the election as the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had an approximate two-third majority in the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC). Seventy-seven elected office-bearers of IMC were eligible to cast their votes.
