DUBAI: That’s it! Biggest upset of the tournament has been done! Islamabad United have beaten Peshawar Zalmi by 50 runs in third playoff to qualify for final of Pakistan Super League, at Dubai International Stadium, UAE.
They will meet Quetta Gladiators on Wednesday at Dubai International Stadium, UAE.
Zalmi skipper, Shahid Afridi put United to bat after winning the toss, but his decision did not work for him at all, as United opener Sharjeel Khan was in a different mood.
He smashed Zalmi bowlers all around the ground and score 117 off just 62 balls, an inning which can earn him a place in Pakistan’s WT20 squad.
United, in the end set a sizable total of 176/3 on the board.
Zalmi in reply took a steady start, Kamran Akmal, in early over, played handy knock of 45. But after him, no Zalmi player could stood up to the need of the hour.
Skipper Afridi, (38 of 17 balls) in last part of the inning tried his hand at everything, but things had gone too messy for him to control. When he left the crease, with low shoulders, the crowd began to left the stadium too.
Imran Khalid bowled superbly for his 4/20 in 3 overs.
sharjeel Khan of United was unanimously chosen Man of the Match for his blistering hundred in Big Match.
