District administration imposes ban on sale of imported cigarettes in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD:  Islamabad district administration on Monday imposed ban on sale of cigarettes without license, TheNewsTribe.com reported.

Any shopkeeper who is found guilty of selling cigarettes without bearing a proper license will spend time in jail.

The decision has come in bid to make the federal capital a smoking free zone. Violators of the ban will be fined Rs 50,000 along with three days in prison.

Sources said that the administration would issue licenses to more than 1,700 shopkeepers. At least 50 shop owners have acquired licenses in this regard.

Sale of imported cigarettes has been banned irrespective of any license issued by the administration. However, traders have not taken the ban well and have resented the step taken regarding imported cigarettes  sale.
