Pak vs NZ Second T20: Guptill, Williamson set world record

HAMILTON: Skipper of New Zealand tea, Kane Williamson and opening bastman Martin Guptill played brilliant inning  and set world record of highest opening stand in T20 as they gave opening stand of 171 at Seddon park, Hamilton on Sunday.

Guptill and Williamson surpassed the previous best mark they’d set together for New Zealand in Twenty20 internationals of 137 made against Zimbabwe in 2011/12 before passing the world’s best mark of 170 from South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Loots Bosman made against England in 2009/10 with a boundary when two runs were required for victory.

New Zealand has leveled the series 1-1 and now the third T20 between both sides has taken the shape of final which will be a series decider which is due to play on January 22 at Wellington.

Kane Williamson scored 72 off 48 balls with the help of 11 boundaries while Guptill scored 87 off 58 balls with 9 boundaries and 4 massive sixes.

New Zealand chased down the target of 169 runs in just 17 overs with 10 wickets in hands.

Pakistani bowlers failed to get any wicket today.

Earlier courtesy to Umar Akmal’s power hitting in death overs Pakistan gave 169 runs to win to hosts, Umar Akmal scored blisterring unbeaten 57  runs off 28 balls, Young gun hit 4 sixes and 3 boundaries in his innings while Malik scored 39 runs.

Pakistan after winning the toss startd off the things confidently but soon pakistan lost its concentration Pakistan lost 3 wickets in regular intervals, Pakistan were 72-3 in first 12 overs,

Then Pakistani T20 specialists Umar Akmal and Shoaib Malik took charge of New Zealand bowlers and gave Pakistan a bit of hope for a win

Mcleaneghan took two eickets from Kiwis’ side while  Santner, Eliott, Milne and Anderson took one wicket each
