‘Got a chance but not avail it’ Sri Lanka vs Kiwis: Post match analysis

WELLINGTON: In Sri Lanka’s tour to New Zealand, ODI series has been ended up with a clear victory of New Zealand by 3-1 and now at the same ground Sri Lnakan team tasted the first defeat T20 series at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.

After losing two ODIs here, it was expected hugely for Sri Lanka to win the T20 in the same ground but unfortunately they failed to prove it and lost the first T20 by only three runs.

GOT A CHANCE- BUT DID NOT AVAIL IT:

As in the last ODI, Sri Lanka did a same repeated mistake to field first. In both the times they got a chance to win the toss but they did not avail it rather they transferred it to their opponent who fully availed it and set their name in gold.

We can see the same performances from both the sides, the respectful and consistent baiting of black caps encouraged their bowler to put up a pressure on Lankans. As the match started the batting order played stunningly to set a high target. Kane Williamson played a quick fire 50.

Martin Guptill also contributed 58 with 4 fours and 4 sixes, it was really a lightning factor behind their victory. Williamson truly fulfilled the responsibility of a skipper as he played amazingly in the last two matches. Colin Munro was also playing well but soon dismissed by Kulasekara.

Top order of New Zealand paved a strong way to victory therefore middle order did not find it hard to continue. By the end of the first innings New Zealand set a target of 184 in the loss of only four wickets which was not that much big especially in T20s where consistent batting is difficult to show but New Zealand beautifully performed in the first T20.

SRILANKA’s BOWLING DID NOT AFFECT ON THE PERFORMANCE OF BLACK CAPS:

Besides having being good bowling skills, Sri Lanka failed to target their prey when needed. They dismissed the golden keys of New Zealand but not at the need of hour.

When they are dismissed they had already done their job which was quite enough for their team to win. But a good piece of bowling from Kulasekara and Vandersay.

They bowled out the stars of New Zealand, if they did not show them the way to pavilion and they could stay a bit longer on the crease it was then very easy for New Zealand to win.

After the star’s dismissal, Sri Lanka kept on chasing the game and after a long and thrilling fight, it lost by only three runs. So the contribution of Lankan bowlers was really appreciable.

SRILANKA’s TOP ORDER FAILED IN BATING:

When Lanka’s batting order came to chase the target, unfortunately the top order failed and again the same mistakes throughout the game where the frequent dismissals of the Sri Lankan batsmen have been seen.

The ones who were expected to play their part were failed and they put a huge responsibility on the left overs which was quite difficult for them to manage. But yet besides Danushka Gunathilaka and Milinda Siriwardana, the tailenders somehow got the game despite the ultimate pressure on them.

It is due to the immense contribution of Gunathilaka and Siriwardana that Sri Lanka chased the target to the extreme end but failed to win the game and lost it in the very end by just three runs.

So the contribution of the talendeners is definitely a good part from them. And the defeat can be named out because of the failed top order of Sri Lankan batsmen.

 OUTSTANDING BOWLING OF BLACK CAPS:

Once again an outstanding piece of bowling from New Zealand has enabled them to get the victory. After winning the last ODI because of the charming spell of Matt Henry, he continued to move ahead and showed another piece of fantabulous bowling in the first T20 and rapidly dismissed the top order of Lankan batsmen which had built a lot of pressure on left over Lankan batsmen. Trent boult and Matt Henry, bowled out six classical batsmen of Sri Lanka, both of them got 3, 3 wickets.

In this match the credit goes to the stunning bowlers of New Zealand because without their beautiful spells, they could not achieve the victory.

MAN OF THE MATCH:

Trent Boult was declared as the man of the match as he picked up three important wickets of Sri Lanka at the need of an hour. His spell was on of the most important factors behind the success of New Zealand in first T20.

Wishing both the teams a very good luck for the next T20, which would be played in the same ground on 10th January 2016.
