UPDATE: No casualty as Dubai’s The Address Hotel Downtown catches fire

DUBAI: Panic spread in Dubai as revelers flee New Year’s Eve party after massive fire ripped though The Address Downtown close to city’s big firework display.

The 63-storey hotel is currently on fire in the Middle Eastern city. The flames appear to run up at least 40 storeys of the exclusive hotel. No one was hurt and the Burj Khalifa fireworks’ display is still taking place.

The hotel caught fire at about 9.30pm Dubai time, with the flames appearing to reach from the ground floor up another 40-or-so storeys of the 63 floor building.

It was not immediately clear what caused the blaze at the five star hotel, which is minutes from the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest skyscraper, where the New Year’s display is due to begin at 8pm UK time.

Authorities have said the display is still going ahead, despite the burning debris falling from the building.

Pakistan actress Shiba But also got stuck in Dubai’s The Address Hotel, Downtown which caught fire just when thousands of people were gathering there to enjoy New Year Night celebrations, TheNewsTribe.com reported.

Shiba called from her hotel room to NNI and told that she has stuck in the hotel, “It’s quite smoky here, difficult to breathe.”

She requested everyone to pray for her.

Later when she was contacted on phone, Shiba told in a shaky voice that she is still stuck in there, the fire is too HUGE to put off easily.

Reports suggest that Many Pakistani families who went to spend New Year, and winter vacations to Dubai, are also stuck in the fire-engulfed hotel.
