LODHRAN: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf’s (PTI) senior leader and candidate for Lodhran’s national Assembly constituency number 154 is so far leading with a good count of votes against Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PMLN) candidate Siddique Baloch.
Vote count is still underway in by-elections for NA-154 constituency of Punjab’s Lodhran town, where close contest is witnessed between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
According to first unofficial result from 75 polling stations, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Jahangeer Khan Tareen is leading with 36,568 votes while Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) candidate Siddique Baloch is behind with 1995 votes.
Voting started at 8am in the morning and continued without interval till 5pm.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) deputed Pakistan Army inside and outside polling stations to ensure free, fair and transparent by-elections.
Baloch had won this seat in 2013 general elections as an independent candidate and later joined PML-N. He was de-seated by an election tribunal in August on a petition of Tareen who claimed rigging in polls.
A total of 303 polling stations were set up in NA-154, of them 30 were declared sensitive and six ‘highly sensitive’.
Around 419,000 voters will exercise their right to vote, with public holiday announced in the city on account of by-election.
