SYDNEY: Australian woman cricketer Angela Reakes has been suspended for two years over bets of just $9 in World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand.
Investigated by Cricket Australia (CA), Reakes pleaded guilty to placing five bets on the man-of-the-match in the men’s World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand on March 29.
Reakes, received the sanctions under CA’s anti-corruption code.
“All elite cricketers are reminded regularly that betting on any form of cricket is strictly prohibited,” head of the CA integrity unit Iain Roy said.
“Angela understands that in placing these bets she made a bad mistake and has acknowledged the seriousness of her error.
“She has been cooperative during the investigation and we believe the penalty in these circumstances is appropriate.”
Reakes can continue playing cricket at all levels subject to no further breaches of the code.
