PML takes lead as PTI trails in second phase of LB polls in Punjab

LAHORE: Reflecting the results of first phase, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) has taken lead in second phase of Local Bodies’ elections in Punjab’s 12 districts.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, independent candidates are in majority after the PML-N. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is on third position.

Out of 2399 seats of 12 districts of Punjab, the unofficial results of 2018 have been announced.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, PML-N is leading with 929 seats followed by independent candidates with 746 seats and PTI with 300.

Polling was disrupted in some districts because of clashes between political rivals, voters cast their ballots in Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Attock, Jhelum, Mianwali, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sheikhupura and Khanewal.

Other results include Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) with 12 seats and Q-League with ten seats. Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) bagged eight seats.

Remaining 13 seats went to other parties.

PML-N got 54 seats from a total of 85 Union Councils of Toba Tek Singh. Of the remaining, 16 went to PTI and 15 to independent candidates.

Out of Khanewal’s 135 Union Councils, 37 seats were bagged by PML-N. Independent candidates got 64 others and PTI could succeed on meager eight seats.

In Sargodha, PML-N won 70 out of 160 seats while 72 seats were taken up by independent candidates. PTI could gather ten seats only while one seat went to Jamaat-e-Islami.
