LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) has finally succeeded in tying up Riazul Haq Jajj, an independent candidate who won NA-144 Okara by-elections last month.
Jajj broke the news of his joining the ruling political party in a meeting with Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif here at CM House.
Jajj, a popular figure in Okara sent PMLN, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidates packing with a thumping margin in the b-election held October 11. He had secured 83,240 votes.
Immediately after his surprising victory, he was wooed by all the political parties but Jajj refused to join any of them.
“If I ever joined a party it would be PMLN. It is because Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif is a leader who has always been close to my heart,” Jajj told reporters after winning the by-polls.
According to official results, the PMLN candidate Arif Ali Chaudhry had bagged 41,050 votes while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Ashraf Sohna only 7000 in the NA-144 by-poll
