Govt approves army deployment in sensitive areas during Muharram

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Tuesday has approved to deploy army in sensitive areas during Moharram, TheNewsTribe.com reported.

All four provinces wrote a letter to federation, demanding army personnel’s deployment in order to avoid any mishap in the country.

More than 12,000 army soldiers would be appointed in various parts of the country as a quick response force.

The authorities would ensure the security of highly-sensitive areas in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Multan, Gujranwal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Hangu, Bannu, Kohat, D.I Khan and Chakwal.

On the other hand, the district administration of Quetta has imposed Section-144 in an attempt to maintain law and order during Muharram 7 to 10.

Sources said that police personnel have devised a security plan that would hold static deployment at alarming places, patrolling, installation of CCTV cameras and jammers and search operations.

An important session presided over by provincial secretary Akbar Hussain was held in which as many as 32 Frontier Corps (FC) platoons were sought for security. Three army battalions and at least 6,000 police and Levies force’s officers would perform their duties.

Emergency would be imposed in five hospitals in the metropolis whereas federation has also been approached to ban cellular service on Muharram 9, 10.
