KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabitta Committee (RC) on Thursday morning condemned arrest of its member RC and raised concerns about his health.

In a press conference in MQM Headquarter, Karachi, Farooq Sattar told media that Kamal Malik, who was arrested from his house in a pre-dawn raid by Rangers, was a liver patient.

Sattar said he had his liver transplant two years back and raised concerns about his health under custody.

He denounced his arrest without proper reason and mentioned that only MQM leadership is  being arrested in the name of Karachi operation, while no other party’d top leadership is being treated this way.

He further said Rangers conducted a thorough search of Malik’s house, during which they seized his academic records and certificates.

“A heavy contingent of Rangers raided the house of Kamal Malik on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday around 2:30am. They scaled the walls of his home and arrested him. No reason for the arrest has been given,” the MQM said.

Malik is believed to be “seriously ill” and had undergone a liver transplant two years ago, the party said.

In its statement, the MQM called for Malik’s release.
