Washington: Navy Yard lockdown amidst reports of shooting

WASHINGTON: United States of America’s Washington Navy Yard is under lock-down, as an “active gunman” is reported to have fired shots at the Navy Yard in Washington DC.

A tweet from the US Navy account said: “Navy Yard on lockdown/shelter in place. No incident can be confirmed as of yet. More to follow.”

Washington’s  Metropolitan Police is unknown of the nature of  incident, saying they’re responding to facility.

A large number of police vehicles have also gathered at the scene. The gates to the yard are shut and no one is being allowed to enter.

Navy spokesman Petty Officer 1st Class Pedro Rodridguez also confirmed that shots have been reported in a building on the campus, however, he did not give any details of injuries or other information.

In September 2013, gunman Aaron Alexis killed 12 people after he went on a shooting rampage with a stolen pistol at building 197 in the Navy Yard.
