Collection of Zakat and Fitra for a welfare organisation is not a crime: Khalid Maqbool

KARACHI – Senior leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Chairman Rabita Committee, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, criticized the Rangers over the arrest of Party’s 16 workers.

While talking to media persons, Chairman RC Khalod Maqbool Sadiqui said that collection of Zakat for welfare organisation is not a crime.

He raised a question that since when collection of Zakat became illegal in Karachi. He said that Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) is working for the welfare of people in Krachi and each and every citizen of Karachi know very well.

He claimed that Rangers arrested the members of MQM when a meeting of KKF was underway in Gulbahar sector.

Earlier, Pakistan Rangers Sindh has claimed to arrest 30 men of Muttahida Qaumi Movementon Thursday for allegedly collecting donations by force from Karachi’s Rizvia Society area.

The paramilitary force personnel also claimed to have recovered Rs.31,500 from the arrested men along with documents and receipts related to the collection of funds.

The Rangers’ personnel further added that no political or religious outfit would be allowed to collect donations by force in the name of fitra.

The statement further added that the public is fed up of extortion collected in the name of fitra.

An appeal was also made to the masses to report at Rangers Helpline 1101 any incident of extortion of forcible collection of donations.
