ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered election commission to hold re-election in the constituency NA-19 of Haripur.
According to media reports, three members’ bench headed by Justice Jawad S. Khawaja accepted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Raja Amir Zaman’s review petition and ordered re-election in the constituency from Hazara Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It is pertinent to mention here that PTI candidate Raja Amir had won the elections on May 11,2013 with a clear margin, but the runner up Umer Ayub, a PML-N candidate, accused him of rigging. In response to accusation of Umer Ayub, the returning officer carried out recount and declared Raja Amir as winner.
However, Omar once again refused to accept the results of seven polling stations and demanded re-election in these polling stations.
Later, the election tribunal ordered re-polling in seven polling stations of the constituency. Raja Amir Zaman challenged tribunal decision in the court and requested to hold re-election in the whole constituency.
