Primary school ban children from fasting during Ramadan

LONDON: A primary school in east London has banned its Muslim pupils from fasting during their holy month Ramadan terming it danger for children’s health and education.

Barclay Primary School in Leyton, east London, is being criticised for banning Muslim pupils from fasting during Ramadan.

The primary school trust sent a letter to parents stating that because in last Ramadan season many Muslim students fell ill which affected their studies. Therefore they have decided to ban fasting during Ramadan after seeking guidance from Islam that children are not due to fast during the month.

The letter reads as “Previously, we have had a number of children who became ill and children who fainted or who have been unable to fully access the school curriculum in their attempt to fast,” the letter said.
