Ravi Shastri to take up the vacant Position of head coach of Indian cricket team

MUMBAI – Former Indian test player Ravi Shastri could be the highest paid cricket coach in the world with an estimated deal worth 70 million a year accordind to Indian news agency.

The former India captain and the Team Director is in line to be named Team India’s next coach, a report in Indian newspaper said.

The Indian side is currently without a head coach following Duncan Fletcher’s tenure which ended with India’s World Cup semi-final loss to Australia.

There were reports that Sourav Ganguly or Rahul Dravid may take up the vacant position. However, the former has been included in Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Cricket Advisory Committee, while Dravid was asked to handle the India A and Under-19 teams.

Ravishankar Shastri is former Indian cricketer and acting Director for the Indian cricket team since August, 2014.He represented the Indian national team in both Test and One-Day matches between 1981 and 1992.

Although he started his career as a left arm spin bowler, he later transformed into a batting all–rounder. Shastri’s family is originally from Mangalore in Karnataka however he was born and brought up in Bombay.

As a batsman, he was essentially defensive with his trademark “chapati shot” (a flick off the pads), but he could raise hisstrike rate when required.

Due to his above-average height (he stood 6′ 3″ tall) and an upright stance, he had a limited number of shots against fast bowling, but was able to put the lofted shot to good use against spin bowling. Shastri played either as an opening batsman or in the middle order.
