Three SHOs In Multan Have Yet To Pass Metric Exam

LAHORE – The provincial government has announced in the Punjab Assembly that it would raise a new police force with the name “Special Protection Force for Chinese” to protect the Chinese and their investments under the ‘Economic Corridor’ here in the province of Punjab.

For the purpose, as many as 10,000 police officers would be recruited for the new force that would be trained by the Pak army for which Inspector General Police had visited GHQ, this was announced by Punjab Home Minister Colonel (r) Shuja Khanzada during the Question Hour in Punjab Assembly on Friday.

Answering different queries regarding the Home Department, he said that his government was working to establish a new police training school at the location of Kalarkahar, Chakwal where around 5,000 police officers would be trained while some 1500 new police officers have been recruited through the NTS who would start their work from July this year.

Punjab Assembly’s Friday session started 49 minutes late to its scheduled time at9am under the chair of Speaker Rana Iqbal when only five members were present in the House.

During the question hour, provincial minister told the House that a project—PROMIS—to computerize all the police department’s record especially in the police stations of all 36 districts in Punjab was started with the American assistance.

But, he confirmed that such system had collapsed by the reason of non-payment of the government to the company for up-gradation of the software. So a task had been given to the Punjab Information and Technology Board (PITB) to introduce some new software to fulfill the requirement.

While, he informed the House that the Provincial Command and Control Centre of Punjab Police would also be completed till March 2016. The minister while answering a query accepted that there was a political involvement in the appointment of Station House Officers (SHOs) in the police stations but his government was working to change the Thana Culture by police reforms in general.

He said that use of torture in the police stations was a traditional tactic against the accused persons as the policemen had no better investigation methods so now his government was facilitating the department to enhance its investigative system on scientific bases.

He also informed the House that they needed Rs5 billion to purchase lands and construct the buildings of people friendly police stations as currently 184 police stations in Punjab were working in rental properties.

Interestingly, it was informed in the question hours that there were 3 SHOs in Multan district who are just under metric while 9 are just metric pass.
