LONDON/ISLAMABAD – Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain has expressed on the official website of the party that his statement pertaining to seeking assistance from Indian Intelligence Agency RAW was merely based on sarcasm.
His statement further reads that he never meant to seek help from RAW. However he apologized if any of his words had hurt the institutions of national sovereignty or any Pakistani patriot.
It may be added here that SSP Rao Anwar had claimed in a press conference on Thursday that the police had arrested two wanted criminals Tahir Lamba and Junaid, belonging to MQM. Rao Anwar had also stated that the two were sent to India for getting armed training from the Indian Intelligence Agency RAW intended to subsequently destabilize Pakistan.
Tahir and Junaid had accepted SSP’s claim in front of media. However, SSP had to pay the price of his news conference when Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah issued his suspension orders.
In retaliation to SSP’s press conference, MQM Chief came out with oppressive comments about the serving chiefs of armed forces as supervisors to criminal elements. Going further, he exclaimed, asking RAW to once put forward a helping hand towards MQM.
While commenting about Rao Anwar, Altaf Hussain said, “It is not sufficient only to suspend the sweeper. He should be blown with cannon fire”.
ISPR responded to MQM Chief’s press conference, calling it a hatred speech and the misuse of expression. Spokesman of Armed Forces, Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa said that such a language against the serving chiefs shall never be tolerated.
DG ISPR said that the Armed Forces will take legal action against Altaf’s speech and the matter shall be taken to the court of law.
Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif commented on MQM Chief’s statement and said that asking for help from RAW comes under the context of national betrayal and Altaf must seek unconditional apology from the whole nation.
In the aftermath of military’s statement, Altaf Hussain bent significantly. He retrieved his statements about military for the first time. MQM Chief is known to have been using similar words against senior officers of Pakistan Army. He had given similar statements relating to the ISI Chief Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar a few months ago.
However, an important question of whether it is the last time MQM has put serious allegations on Pakistan Military or it would be continued in an action reaction pattern, still remains unanswered.
