Ireland win toss, opts to bat against Pakistan

ADELAIDE: Ireland have won the toss and elected to bat against Pakistan in a must win game for both teams in order to qualify for the knock outs of World Cup.

Pakistan made two changes in the side as their font line bowler Mohammad Irfan and batsman Younis Khan out for Haris Sohail and Ehsan Adil.

On March 17, 2007, St Patrick’s Day, Ireland raced to a remarkable three-wicket win against Pakistan in their second ICC Cricket World Cup game ever.

Eight years on, Pakistan will be seeking redemption and pay tribute to late Pakistani coach Bob Woolmer  with a victory while Irish team are looking forward to repeat the history once again.

Pakistan have three victories on their back while Ireland also looking forward for another World Cup upset.

After three wins on the trot, Misbah and the team management will resist the urge to tinker much. If Younus Khan keeps his place, as he’s expected to, either Sohaib Maqsood or Umar Akmal could drop down to the bench so that the XI can accommodate Haris Sohail, who also offers an additional slow-bowling option.

Pakistan: Ahmed Shahzad, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Haris Sohail, Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Sohaib Maqsood, Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Khan, Rahat Ali, Ehsan Adil.

Ireland: William Porterfield (capt), Paul Stirling, Ed Joyce, Niall O’Brien, Andy Balbirnie, Kevin O’Brien, Gary Wilson (wk), Stuart Thompson, John Mooney, George Dockrell, Alex Cusack.
