Ali star as England beat Scotland by 119 runs

CHRISTCHURCH: Moeen Ali’s brilliant hand with both bat and bowl helped England to gain their first victory of the tournament after facing two defeats in a row.

The match became one sided as Scotland’s bating was destroyed against England’s bowling on Monday at Hagley Oval.

Kyle Coetzer the only Scottish batsman to show resistance against England’s bowling attack. He made 71 while skipper Preston Mommsen contributed 26 runs to the total.

Steven Finn picked up three wickets while Ali picked up two.

Scotland who won the toss and invited England to bat which turned out to be horrible for their bowler as Ian Bell and Ali provided 172 runs opening stand to England.

Bell departed after scoring 54 while Ali kept the score board ticking and completed his madden World Cup century. He lost his wicket after scoring 128 runs.

Skipper Eion Morgan smashed 46 to set the huge total of 304 for Scotland.

Josh Davey was the stand out bowler for the losing side. He picked up four wickets.
