Bangladesh set difficult target in World Cup 2015

DHAKA: Bangladesh cricket team have set a target to reach the quarter-finals of next month’s cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the team’s Sri Lankan coach said Thursday.

Talking to media in Dhaka, Chandika Hathurusinghe said that he was happy with the team’s preparations and hoped they would reach the target.

But he said the team would focus on qualifying for the quarter-finals stage of the six-week tournament.

Bangladesh has only once succeeded to the second round in their four previous World Cups, when the team ousted India from the group stage to qualify for the Super Eights in the West Indies in 2007.

Bangladesh are placed in Pool A, which includes co-hosts Australia and New Zealand, as well as England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Scotland.

They start their World Cup campaign against Afghanistan in Canberra on Feb 18.

The coach said that team can get chance to reach quarter finals if it got victory in three matches but the team will definitely qualify for quarter final if it won four matches of the first round of the tournament.

Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza said the opening match against Afghanistan would be key to Bangladesh’s success.

The captain also hoped that they will try to reach second round but declared it as a tough job adding that the team need a good start in the tournament.
