Sindh shortlists terrorism cases to be tried in military courts

KARACHI: The provincial information minister Sharjeel Memon on Thursday said that the Sindh government has shortlisted major cases related to terrorism including incidents of Karachi airport, Mehran base and Karsaz attack which would be recommended to be tried in military courts.

Sharjeel Memon said that 15 out of 20 points of the National Action Plan (NAP) were related to the provincial governments. He was addressing a press conference in Karachi after completion of a high-level meeting held to review mechanism of the NAP.

He said that the 21st constitutional amendment was a concrete steps towards maintain law and order. The development would definitely help to uproot terrorism from the country. He announced that the process of execution will be started from January 13 in Sindh.

Memon revealed that approximately 3,000 terrorism related cases were still pending primarily of extortion and target killing in Sindh province. He said that the cases will be recommended to federal government to refer it for trail in the military courts. He clarified the provincial governments were not authorities to refer directly the cases for trial courts.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah’s ministry is in danger

Sindh government formed four committees including legal, judicial, intelligence and media to implement the NAP. Meanwhile, the apex committee would be led by Chief Minister of Sindh Qaim Ali Shah.

Sharjeel also announced that the provincial government decided to commence crackdowns against illegal immigrants and Afghan refugees whom were currently residing in Sindh. He added that the schools which were facing terrorism threats must finalise strict security arrangements.
