Suspicious Pakistani fishing boat mystery solved?

NEW DELHI: The boat which was destroyed at the New year’s eve during Coast Guard operation is allegedly linked to a drug mafia based in Pakistan, Indian media reported on Monday.

According to Indian Express, the boat named Qalandar was captained by Yaqboob Baloch, a resident of Lyari town in Karachi.

The newspaper said that Pakistani counter-narcotics investigators believe the boat often carried contraband for the Balochistan-based drug cartel of Mir Yakub Bizenjo.

Ayesha Bibi mother of boat captain, told newspaper that she had heard “rumours” of the destruction of her son’s boat after it was intercepted by the Indian Coast Guard. She added, however, that she had received no information that her son had been killed.

“My son had nothing to do with terrorists,” she said.

Pakistan Navy frigate, PNS Babur, had spotted the boat loitering close to Pakistan’s exclusive economic zone, some 200 nautical miles off the coast of Karachi, further in reports.

Earlier, the newspaper claimed that the boat belonged to smugglers smuggling diesel.

According to reports, four persons on board seemingly blew themselves after being chased by the Coast Guards for over an hour and shooting warning fires during the incident.

The ‘Pakistani’ fishing boat was intercepted by the Coast Guard approximately 365 km from Porbander which was moving on way from Keti Bunder near Karachi, Indian defence sources said.

Moreover, the reports quoted intelligence inputs received on 31st December that the boat from Keti Bunder near Karachi was planning some illicit transaction in Arabian Sea.
