Meeting discuss security measures for educational institution in Sindh

KARACHI: A high level meeting attended by Sindh police high ups here on Monday discussed security measures to be taken for educational institutions in the province in the wake of December 16 attack on the Army Public School Peshawar that killed over 150 people including 140 students.   

The meeting was chaired by Inspector General of Sindh Police (IGP) Ghulam Haider Jamali. Additional IG Sindh police Ghulam Qadir Thebo, Karachi’s zonal Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and DIG Special Branch Naeem Akram Bharoka also attended the meeting.

DIG Special Branch submitted a comprehensive report on the analysis and observations regarding the current security situation.

He also suggested that educational institutions’ security should be categorized according to the nature of sensitivity.

IGP Sindh said that educational institutions should be categorised according to possible threats and targets or specific information.

The IGP has also directed for devising an Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)  after holding consultations with various institutions before January 11.

During the meeting, Additional IG Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo said that letters were sent out to educational institutions to have joint security measures with the police.
