Accountability court rejects Asif Zardari’s acquittal application in SGC case

ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court on Monday dismissed former president Asif Ali Zardari’s application for acquittal in SGS and Cotecna cases against him.

The judge of Islamabad Accountability Court, Muhammad Bashir, heard Asif Zardari’s application for acquittal.

It is to be mentioned here that SGS and Cotecna references were filed in 1997 against Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, on the charges of receiving kickbacks in a pre-shipment contract between government and SGS. All the accused persons were absolved except Zardari.

The court while dismissing the acquittal plea directed proceeding on the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references.
