A cup of tea with Billo rani

In Karachi the city of lights, having a population of 23.5 million there are various traffic signals and each one of them is begging point as well. This is the point of consideration that on signals regardless of age there are too many beggars children, women, men and the most important transvestites. These transvestites are very interested group of people they are the most distinct cluster among us. Transvestites always attract to do something on them, so to make use of my media capabilities I thought to interview one of them that how they live, why do they live and many other several questions were ringing around my mind.
After the struggle of few days I got the specimen to work on and to search the hidden things in them well. “Believe me, we are as normal as you people are, in fact we are more clear and soft by heart. We live hundred times happier life than a millionaire.”  These were the first words she told to me, her real name was Basharat. Basharat opened his eyes in a small town of Sargodha, Punjab. He has five sisters and two brothers, he is the youngest. According to him he was the one who always play with her sisters and his mother was also helped frequently in a day by him in his odd jobs of home. He was often scold by his brothers on his due feminine style. But Basharat never take it seriously as he was the owner of his own will. From the very beginning he was fond of ladies clothes and cosmetics and rendering to him he used them secretly. With time his family started apprehending that he has lack of masculinity and that cause a lot of violence to him. That was the reason he left his house since after his parents accidental death. “My brothers used to beat me, the only thing they used to say was that I will ashamed them in the whole world. After leaving my home I changed my identity from Basharat to Billo .. Billo Rani! The best ever feeling is I am not called by ‘HE’ anymore YES! I am ‘SHE’.”

She was 16 when she left her home. After leaving her house she went to Lahore and started living with transvestites. There she learned music and dance; she was taught to play different instruments, singing and classical dance. Her favorite was dance. According to her she had never find that much love in her own house than she was getting it here. She said she had live best time of her life in Lahore. Now what billo rani have in her life are just her friends when I asked about her friends she go crazy and started dancing and waving her hands and head in joy and when she started thinking of them. Pink is her favorite color and yes every second thing she was wearing was of pink color. Billo rani have spent a big part of his life at Lahore she used to dance in parties at birth of newborns especially male kids.

Now Billo Raani lives in somewhere near Pehlwan Goth. She begs on Jauhar Chowrangi. She has so many things to say to this world but she can’t because she is a transvestite and this is the matter of serious consideration that why we don’t take them seriously. She is teased by the passersby on the road, young boys do make fun of us them even young girls also took part in this which just make ourselves ashamed of being us. It’s a request of Billo (Basharat) to us which I am just forwarding to my society that transvestites are also Human beings, they have the same feelings as we have, they simply breathe like us, live like us what matters if they are different from us, do they don’t have a right to live their lives as they want? These are the double standards of our society which should be removed as early as possible. There is also a duty of government to these transvestites that is government should accommodate them properly because most of them are kicked out from their homes, government should give them proper jobs.

Euanch

I hope for a better future of transvestites in Pakistan and especially in Karachi where they are treated like slaves. I hope and pray that where would billo rani be, she would be cheering and dancing like always.
