PCB worried by possible implications of Pakistan hockey players celebration in India

KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar Khan has said that the incident in recently-concluded Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament involving the national hockey team players can have adverse effects on Pakistan cricketing ties with India. Read more.

Indian media and Hockey Federation strongly reacted to the celebrations by Pakistan hockey players after they defeated the arch rival nation in Champions Trophy semifinal match, terming the celebrations as indecent.

During an interview with a private sport channel, Geo Super, Khan said that as the political and diplomatic relations between the two countries remained tense on a regular basis, the resent controversy may aggravate the already strained cricketing ties as the Indian media and public had also developed negative feelings about Pakistan after the incident.

The Indian hockey body lodged complaint with the International Hockey Federation and excreted pressure on the world hockey governing body to ban two Pakistani players for the final against Germany.

The PCB Chairman said that even in most difficult situations the relations between Pakistan and Indian cricket boards had remained cordial. But the recent incident left its negative impact on the relation , he added.

Shehryar Khan said that PCB was maintaining good relations with the Indian board even at the ICC level and it was looking forward to hosting India in the bilateral series next year in UAE.

Asked about the delay in issuance of visa to Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez to fly to Chennai for his bowling action test, Khan said efforts were being made at the highest level to get the visa as soon as possible.
