Election tribunal declares Ghous Ali Shah winner on NA-215

KARACHI: An Election Tribunal on Saturday declared Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz disgruntled leader Ghous Ali Shah as winner on NA-215 by overturning the success of PPP’s Nawab Ali Wasan.

The tribunal declared Ghous Ali Shah as returned candidate on an election petition filed by him.

Shah had challenged the success of PPP’s Nawab Ali Wasan alleging massive irregularities and rigging, which he proved before the tribunal.

In 2013 general election, Nawaz Wasan had bagged 91,000 votes against Ghous Ali Shah, who received over 66,000 votes.

The National Database and Registration Authority verified the votes through thumb impression on the tribunal’s directives and  declared over 99,000 votes as unverifiable.

It is to be mentioned here that another disgruntled PML-N leader and former Chief Minister Sindh Liaqat Ali Jatoi had been declared successful by another election tribunal by annulling PPP’s Perveen Aziz Junejo’s success on a Sindh Assembly seat from Dadu.

Both the PML-N leaders, who have remained chief ministers of Sindh, have strained relation with their party leadership. They are currently engaged in extensive politicking to form a like-minded group in PML-N along with PML-N senator for former Governor Punjab Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa.
