ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has adjourned next hearing of Chief Election Commissioner appointment case till December 8th (Monday), local media reported on Tuesday.
Attorney general told the court that Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and opposition leader Khurshid Shah have met on Monday over the appointment of new CEC.
They discussed the names and also taking major steps to appoint CEC as soon as possible, he said.
SC said that if government unable to appoint CEC than it can take action as a contempt of court, Dunya News reported
Earlier, SC had given 11 more days to appoint Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) against the government’s request for one more month.
The SC bench headed by Chief Justice Nasir Ul Mulk heard the government petition regarding extension of deadline for appointing CEC after the end of the earlier deadline.
