LAHORE: Election Tribunal on Thursday started scrutiny of votes in NA-122 constituency following a plea submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan challenging success of National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
The tribunal started proceeding after Ayaz Sadiq’s petition, seeking dismissal of election tribunal proceedings, dismissed by the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The counsel for Sadiq contested that the proceedings must be cancelled against his client as the petitions filed by Imran were incomplete which cannot affect the eligibility and candidacy of a person.
The counsel for Imran Khan argued that the high courth cannot hear petitions against interim orders of the election tribunals in accordance to its previous declaration. He demanded to dismiss the petition and allowing the tribunal to start proceedings.
