DG ISI meets Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD:  The Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence Lt. General Rizwan Akhtar, who has taken over the premier intelligence agency on Nov 7, called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, here on Saturday.

During the meeting, the DG ISI discussed with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif the ongoing military operation, Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan agency, and operation Khyber-I in Khyber Agency, and other issues relating to ISI’s role.

This was Akhtar’s first meeting between the prime minister after taking charge of DG ISI.

The premier and spy chief also discussed the possibilities of how to deal with terrorist hide-outs in settled areas of the country other than the Federally Administered Tribal Area (Fata).

On the occasion, the Prime Minister lauded the ISI’s role for ensuring national security and meeting the internal and external security challenges the country is beset with.

General Rizwan Akhtar is a graduate of the Command and Staff College in Quetta, National Defense University and the Army War College, USA. Before being promoted to Lt. general and subsequent appointment as DG ISI, Akhtar was serving as DG Sindh Rangers and played a major role in the ongoing targeted operation in Karachi against criminals, gangsters, mafias and militants wings of political parties that has considerably improved the law and order situation of the port city of the country.
