MIRANSHAH: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday paid a historic visit to Miranshah, the headquarter of militancy-infested North Waziristan Agency, where Pakistan Army is currently engaged in a military offensive against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups.
Nawaz Sharif’s visit was first ever by any Prime Minister of the country to the semi-autonomous tribal region.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif received Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif when he reached Miranshah.
It said that the Prime Minister would meet army soldiers during his visit and would be briefed by the Army’s high command about the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb operation.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions (Safron) Lt. General (retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Abbasi are accompanying the Prime Minister.
