KARACHI: The Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN), a conglomerate of several non-governmental organisations working for free and fair elections, has suggested a procedure for thorough audit of the last general election in a bid to end the two months long political impasse stirred by the sit-ins being staged by Pakistan Tehree-e-Insaf and Awami Tehreek.
Head of FAFEN, Mudasir Rizvi, said during in an interview that audit of last general election held in 2013 can be conducted in three phases.
It can be carried out remaining within existing laws and legal frame work of Election Commission of Pakistan, (ECP) Rizvi added.
In first phase, it would be ascertained to what extend the rigging impacted the overall election process and results, he added.
In the next phase, it would be decided how much impact the constituency-wise results had on the overall election results.
In the third phase, the officials engaged with the election process will be investigated whether the mistake or slackness on their parts was intentional or motivated as just omission and human error.
