Death toll in Libya bombings rises to 36

BIN GHAZI: Three car bomb blasts and skirmishes between army and Islamists in capital city of Libya killed 36 soldiers and injured many others.

All three car attacks were suicide car bombs. The attackers drove into an army checkpoint near Benghazi airport. The Libyan army said 70 people were also injured in the attack.

The attacks were carried out on Thursday. Until yesterday seven deaths were reported. The number of deaths increased to 36 on Friday.

The deadly clashes come amid the offensive of Shura Revolutionary Council militants, including Islamist group Ansar al-Sharia, who launched a fresh assault on the airport on Wednesday.
