Flood in Pakistan: death toll rises to 128

ISLAMABAD: After India released flood water in river Chenab, death toll in Punjab rose to 128 on the fourth day, TheNewsTribe.com reported.

More than 20 towns and villages have been affected by flood and heavy rainfall in Punjab and AJK.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) spokesperson confirmed the toll. He said that 128 people, including women, children and rescue workers, have died, while 266 were injured in different incidents.

“11 people died and dozens of  others have been injured in Gilgit-Baltistan while 69 died and 174 were injured in different parts of Punjab,” says NDMA.

More than 3500 housing units have been affected by the flood and heavy rainfall in different parts of KP, Punjab and AJK.

“Crops standing on 820 acre in AJK have been destroyed, while six villages have been inundated by mudslide and heavy rainfall,” NDMA data shows.

As many as 13 villages in Punjab were flooded while crops standing on 4795 acre land have been destroyed.

NDMA has installed 48 flood relief camps in different parts of the flood-affected areas.

On September 5, India discharged flood water in River Chenab at Akhnoor sector area which caused this disaster in Pakistan’s most populated province Punjab.
