NDMA prepares for any disastrous situation

ISLAMABAD: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has alerted all provincial and district officials including flood commission, Indus water commission, WAPDA, meteorological department and army ground relief in the wake of ongoing destructive rains and expected flood in many areas in the Punjab province.

The rains have continued in the country for 30 hours and are likely to continue for the next 48 hours.

According to sources, due to dangerous situation an important meeting of NDMA was held on Thursday with chairman general Aleem Saeed presiding. The meeting was attended by flood commission’s chief engineer, acting director and a member of NDMA.

A high-level flood is expected in next 48 hours in the Ravi, the Satlaj, the Jhelum, the Chanab.

It is feared that water could enter in low-lying areas. The NDMA member Ahmed Kamal has said that close contact between NDMA and all the stakeholders has been established and contact has also been made with Mangla Dam Management committee so that more harm could be avoided in case of sudden release of water from India.

He said that the NDMA is prepared to tackle any situation.
