LHC rejects plea to annul case registration against PM, CM Punjab

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday rejected the plea for excluding case registration against Pakistani premier and Chief Minister of Punjab.

LHC annulled the session court’s decision to bar registration of cases against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, as well as other 21 nominated persons.

Justice Maqbool Bajwa heard the plea filed by the federal ministers Abid Sher Ali, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Khawaja Asif and Pervaiz Rasheed in order to declare session court’s decision annul.

The application was submitted immediately after session court’s directions to register First Investigation Report (FIR) against PM, CM and other 21 nominated persons over Model Town incident.

Court after hearing the argument of both parties kept the decision of additional session judge and rejected the application filed by the government ministers.

Keeping in view, The Model town incident happened on June 17, in which Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers collide with the police on planting barriers in front of PAT chief Tahirul Qadri’s residence.

The incident left 14 people killed while injuring more than 80 including policeman.

However, PAT called out the march against the ruthless killings of workers and alleged rigging in the general election and continues their protest in Red Zone of federal capital Islamabad since August 14.
