KARACHI: Pakistan’s Reut-e-Hilal Committee on Saturday announced that there are no evidences received across the country for Ramadan moon sighting, hence the Ramadan fasting would be commenced from June 30 (Monday).
Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman made the formal announcement concluding the today’s session started for moon sighting of Ramadan month.
Sunset time in Pakistan had been declared 7:26pm on Saturday (today) while moon sighting was possible till 8:07pm after sunset.
Zonal committees of Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, and Quetta, the provincial capital city of Balochistan, reported no evidences found till yet in their areas.
The Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee commenced its high-level meeting in Karachi, the metropolitan city of Pakistan on Saturday, to watching new crescent for beginning of Ramadan month.
However, the final announcement of the country’s elite committee is still due to be made for declaration of new lunar month.
Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman chaired the meeting in the metropolitan city of Pakistan along with several members of the committee and experts.
The chairman Reut-e-Hilal Committee said that anyone who have evidence of moon sight, based on Sharia principles, is allowed to contact directly to the zonal offices.
Chief Meteorologist Tauseef Alam, Director General Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Arif Mahmood and DG Religious Affairs Manzoor Ahmed are also attending the meeting.
On the other hand, zonal committees of all four provinces of the country started their sessions for collecting firm evidences in their spotted areas for moon sighting.
The central committee will make the formal announcement for the crescent sighting in view of collected evidences provided from subordinate committees sitting across the country.
The higher authorities had released directives to all zonal committees for ensuring qualitative efforts for Ramadan moon sighting for getting the error-free decision.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD):
According to Met department, there are quiet less chances of crescent sighting in the country, whereas, the atmospheric conditions in majority areas of Pakistan is cloudy while some areas are receiving heavy rainfalls of the monsoon season.
Pakistani Met department predicted that moon would be present on 2.25 angle on the horizon today; decreasing its possibility to be sighted in various parts of Pakistan including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Punjab provinces except few coastal parts of Balochistan province.
The department said that 8 degree angle on the horizon is needed to watch crescent moon clearly.
Moreover, two neighbouring countries of Pakistan including Bangladesh and India had announced no moon sighting observed today, hence Muslims would observe its first fast of the Ramadan month on July 30 (Monday).
Countries to observe first fast of Ramadan month on July 29 (tomorrow):
The countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and Jordan will start the fasting month from tomorrow as crescent was sighting today declaring the commencement of new lunar month.
Sighting of new crescent moon is compulsory for commencement of any Islamic month in accordance to lunar calendar while many of the Islamic countries still preferring observing the new moon via naked eye, whereas, others allow astronomical calculations for observing the starting of new Islamic month.
