PM Nawaz announces Ramzan package for IDPs

BANNU: Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz has said that government has decided to restore peace in country and the peace will be restored in the country with the prayers of Internally Displaced People (IDPs).

Prime Minister announced additional amount of Rs 20,000 for each family of IDPs as Ramzan package.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday visited the camps of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Bannu, on arrival, army chief General Raheel Sharif received the Prime Minister.

While addressing the IDPs, Prime Minister said that the government will work with the military and will not hesitate to spend any sum for their rehabilitation. Prime Minister announced increasing assistance package for each family up to Rs 20,000 from current Rs 12,000.

He assured to extend all possible assistance for the internally displaced persons of North Waziristatn.

Nawaz Sharif said the government is aware of the difficulties being faced by the displaced families and military-civil officials are working together to provide relief to them.

He said safe and peaceful return of the IDPs to their homes will also be ensured after the establishment of peace in North Waziristan.

Prime Minister said that a sum of Rs 40,000 per family would be granted to the refugees in the month of Ramadan,

The premier acknowledged that it was not easy for people to evacuate their homes, saying that there was no shortage of resources to relocate IDPs.

He said that the army and the government would combine efforts to alleviate the problems faced by the people.

On the occasion, military officials gave a detailed briefing to the prime minister on the arrangements made for the internally displaced persons of North Waziristan in relief camps. He also met with the soldiers and officers of the Pakistan Army. Nawaz Sharif underscored that terrorism had challenged the state’s writ.

He also said that the homes destroyed during the operation in North Waziristan would be constructed soon, saying that the government would also build new schools, hospitals and roads.

He said that he assures that it is an hour of trial but it was necessary to resolve the issue, saying that now it is also the responsibility of the government to resolve the grievances of the affected people.

Prime Minister said that the government and the military are making joint efforts for alleviating the hardships of the affectees and it is hoped that the difficulties will be overcome soon and the affected people will peacefully return to their homes.

Prime Minister was accompanied by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Khan Abbasi, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and State Minister Abdul Qadir Baloch. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak also accompanied the delegation.

Prime Minister had also extended an invitation to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan which was declined by Imran Khan, who cited the party’s upcoming Bahawlpur rally as the reason for why he would not be able to visit the camps personally and he asked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to accompany the Prime Minister to visit the camps of internally displaced persons in Bannu.

Progress of Military Operation

It is worth mentioning here that the operation Zarb-e-Azb has seen the northwestern tribal area of North Waziristan hit by more than a week of shelling and air raids, and more than half a million people have fled ahead of an impending ground assault, with many going to the nearby town of Bannu.

According to ISPR, 327 militants have been killed and their 45 hideouts have been destroyed between June 15 and June 25. Ten soldiers embraced martyrdom while seven others sustained injuries in terrorist attacks
