JKLF’s Yaseen Malik to launch ‘Quit Kashmir Movement”

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman(JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik has asked people to march towards Lal Chowk here on June 23 to join the party’s launch of “Quit Kashmir Movement”.

It coincides with the death anniversary of Jan Sangh founder Shayma Prasad Mukherjee.

“The RSS and BJP will observe this day under the plan for complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the Union of India.

Our response will be ‘Quit Kashmir’ and I appeal people from across Kashmir to assemble at Lal Chowk on that day,” Malik said after being re-elected as JKLF chairman for next three years.

BJP is already planning a mega rally in Jammu on June 23 to remember Mukherjee who was for complete integration of the State with the Union of India. The rally would be reportedly addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Malik said since the BJP and RSS were in power at New Delhi, the Government of India would be officially observing Mukherjee’s death anniversary as a day to “reinforce the propaganda call” for JK’s integration with India.

“There is only one solution to defeat their design and it is to unite for slogan of Quit Kashmir,” an emotionally charged Malik addressed supporters at party’s Maisuma headquarter here.

Last month Malik had announced that he would launch “Quit Kashmir Movement” on the pattern of “Safr-e-Azadi” (Journey for Freedom) and signature campaign undertaken by him earlier.

“Today I appeal to intelligentsia, civil society, students and ever common person to understand their design otherwise we will lose the battle,” Malik warned.

The JKLF Chairman even reached out to the separatist leadership and called for a united front against the “invasion on the identity of Kashmiris and the design for changing the demography of the State”.

“This is the one issue where we are all united in our battle,” Malik said.

He said after the 1975 Indira-Sheikh accord which was an “attempt to bury the Kashmir movement” the JKLF founder Muhammad Maqbool Bhat rose to the occasion and infused fresh life into the movement with his blood.

Malik said Kashmir struggle was at “critical phase”. “The onus lies on all of us including the pro-freedom leadership to infuse fresh life in this movement,” Malik said.

The JKLF Chairman said there was deliberate attempt to create confusion among people over the Article 370, which gives special powers to J&K, with the State subject laws.

The two are poles apart. Article 370 has nothing to do with the purchase of the property here. But this confusion is being planned under the design to change the demography and Muslim majority status of Kashmir,” Malik said.

Earlier Malik was re-elected as the chairman JKLF at a party convention at Maqbool Manzil. He was unanimously re-elected by the Electoral College comprising of 61 members participating from UK, USA, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Pakistan, Pakistan Administered Kashmir, Gilgit, Baltistan and Jammu and Kashmir. The voting from outside J&K took place through video conferencing.

The 61 members including 31 from J&K comprising party’s supreme council participated in the election process. Malik also proposed the name of Amanullah Khan as the supreme head of the party till he is alive.
