PESHAWAR: Grand Tribal Jirga on Saturday announced extension in 2006’s peace agreement made between Pakistan government and North Waziristan tribes, local media reported.
North Waziristan’s Grand Tribal Jirga held successful negotiations with the Pakistan government on Saturday (today); demanding declaration of ‘full authority’ and ‘confidence’ over the ‘nominated tribal jirga’ authorised for peace establishment by Waziristan Shura, reports said.
Jirga appealed the Pakistani authorities to stop unannounced military operation in North Waziristan Agency and relaxation in recently imposed curfew in parts of the agency.
Moreover, the grand jirga also appealed the parties to establish peace in accordance to the 2006’s peace agreement. They also announced continuation of efforts for peace establishment via negotiations.
Earlier, Haji Sher Muhammad-led the ‘North Waziristan Grand Jirga’ held meeting with Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Abbasi and Corps Commander Peshawar Lt. General Khalid Rabbani in the provincial capital Peshawar on Friday (yesterday).
The federal government gave a 15-day deadline to the tribal jirga (assembly of the elders) to oust foreign militants present in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) in order to stop military action for peace establishment.
