KARACHI: Geo Television Network and Jang media group on Monday formally sought an apology from ISI, its chief Zaheer-ul-Islam and his family members for the transmission alleging his involvement in attack on the life of senior journalist Hamid Mir.
In the apology published in group’s newspaper “The News” and the Urdu daily ‘Jang’, the media house claimed that the group has high respect and esteem for Pakistan army and its leadership.
The apology reads that the media group always recognized the sacrifices uttered by the army in every era and it was part of editorial policy of Jang group and Geo news.
It was further stated that the group management and its staff will obey it in future discourse as well.
The group had admitted that through self accountability, editorial debate and feedback they reached the conclusion that our coverage after attack on Hamid Mir on April 19 crossed the limits and was distressful and emotional.
The statement said, although coverage was according to the present practice of media and allegations along with point of view of ISPR and photographs of DG ISI were aired again and again. It was still believed unbalanced, inappropriate and impression of campaign perceived.
The statement said as institution, ISI, it’s director general, lieutenant general Zaheer Ul Islam, his family, all people related to armed forces and numbers of our viewers who afflicted they seek apology from sincerity of their heart.
The statement clarified that “they have not been any intention ever to target any institution or personality’.
