KARACHI: Karachi’s ruling party Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Saturday issued legal notices to the federal interior ministry, chairman National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) and Pakistani high commissioner based in London against the non issuance of National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) to party chief Altaf Hussain,
According to a statement issued from Nine Zero—the MQM’s headquarters, these notices were issued by the Muttahida’s Senator Barrister Farogh Nasim.
The MQM argued in the legal notice that it is unlawful, unconstitutional and undemocratic that the interior ministry baulked at issuing the national identity card to the party chief.
It must be remembered that MQM chief Altaf Hussain has applied for the NICOP and Pakistani passport and its non-issuance till today has seen conflicting statements from foreign office, Interior Ministry, NADRA staff and others.
