Washington: Motorola’s flagship smartphone Motorola Droid Maxx finally gets the new paint job, as device launched in red and black model for $99.99 on Verizon.
The Verizon-exclusive Motorola Droid Maxx has been highly-praised for its outstanding battery life and neat specs. While most smartphones nowadays don’t last for very long on a single charge, the Droid Maxx shines in this department as it’s one of the few smartphones currently available on the market that doesn’t sacrifice battery life.
The smartphone is getting older nonetheless, and Motorola is now freshening things up with two new versions of the device. The Droid Maxx is now available on Verizon’s network in two new color options, selling in a glossy red version and a black model with chrome accents.
The two new models cost $99.99 with a standard two-year activation or $499.99 off-contract and are currently available only online from Verizon, but are set to hit retail stores next week, on April 22. The new color options, however, also come with half the internal storage capacity of the existing model, i.e. 16GB instead of 32GB, and there’s no microSD card slot for additional memory.
The old model with 32GB of internal storage capacity, meanwhile, is still available for $50 more on-contract ($149.99) or $100 more off-contract ($599.99).
Other than the different color and the lower internal storage capacity, the new versions of the Verizon Droid Maxx remain unchanged in terms of specs and features.
As a reminder, the Motorola Droid Maxx sports a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, a Motorola X8 Mobile Computing System (1.7GHz dual-core application processor, 400MHz quad-core GPU, natural language processor, contextual computing processor), a 10-megapixel rear camera with quick capture, 1080p HD video recording capabilities up to 60fps, and a 2-megapixel front facing shooter with full HD recording capabilities. On the software side, the smartphone runs Android 4.4 KitKat.
Its strength lies in the battery department, as the Motorola Droid Maxx can provide up to 48 hours of mixed usage on a single charge due to its large 3,500 mAh battery, lasting longer than any 4G LTE smartphone out there. The smartphone also offers Motorola’s neat features such as Touchless Control and Active display.
