ISLAMABAD: Government tabled the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance (PPO) bill in the Senate, the upper house of the Parliament, on Friday.
The house witnessed strong protest from the opposition when Federal Minister Zahid Hamid presented the bill.
Today’s session of the Senate held in the presidency of Deputy Chairman Senate Sabir Baloch.
Opposing the bill Pakistan People Party (PPP) senator Raza Rabbani termed the PPO as black law and against the human rights. He said through the bill the country is being made Nazi state.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) senators said the PPO will not be approved at all. “It is cruelty to the people of the country.”
The Awami National Party (ANP) senator Haji Adeel viewed that the senate committee be constituted for consideration on the PPO.
The Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML Q) senator Kamil Ali Agha declared the PPO as blind law. He advised the government to take all parties into confidence over the bill.
On the occasion, the deputy speaker sent the bill to the senate standing committee on interior and said all the members could register their apprehensions over the PPO to the committee.
