ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties have agreed to oppose the Protection of Pakistan Bill (PPB) in the Senate, saying that they will not let the bill be approved in the Senate.
According to a private TV channel on Friday, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) contacted Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Awami National Party (ANP) to oppose Protection of Pakistan Bill (PPB) in Senate. Jamaat Islami (JI) Chief also termed the bill a violation of basic human rights.
According to reports, MQM has started seeking support of opposition parties in senate to oppose the Pakistan Protection Bill.
Senator Babar Ghauri said that opposition will not let the bill be approved in Senate.
MQM’s parliamentary leader in Pakistan’s upper house, Babar Khan Ghauri contacted opposition leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, Awami National Party’s parliamentary leader Haji Adeel and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid’s (PMLQ) Senator Kamil Ali Agha over phone and exchanged views over the Protection of Pakistan Bill which has already been approved by the National Assembly.
Babar Ghauri said that PPB 2014 is dictatorial, draconian, inhumane, blood shedding, satanic and merciless. He said that MQM will protest the bill at every level.
Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, Senator Haji Adeel and Senator Kamil Ali Agha said while agreeing to MQM’s point of view, that PPB 2014 will strongly be opposed in the Senate and that there’s no way Senate will let the bill be approved. Leaders of all the four political parties agreed on devising a joint strategy to defeat the bill in the Senate after terming it contrary to the basic principles of human rights.
