RIO DE JANEIRO: Pakistan team of street footballers won the match for the third position in Street Child World Cup by beating United States by 1 goal.
Pakistan won the match on penalty-kicks, which goal-keeper and captain Sameer Ahmed proved to be a wall for the opponents.
The teenager blocked at least two attempts by the US strikers in full-time, while he stopped one penalty-kick during the shoot-out.
The final score was Pakistan 3: 2 US.
In a country where football is not a favourite game and the national team is far away from making into FIFA World Cup, this is an extra ordinary achievement from poor street kids.
Pakistan had to play the match for the third position as the country’s team of poor street kids reached semi final of the tournament by beating India, Mauritius and Philippines but lost the big match to Burundi.
Not only today, but even yesterday, Street Child World Cup’s twitter page praised Pakistan’s young footballers as ‘Amazing’.
