LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairperson Najam Sethi revealed that the cricket board is near bankruptcy; they are making efforts to bring money for cricket sector in the country and he starts emphasising to resolve Big-3’s matter.
Najam Sethi has faced the hard-line questions from local media after embarrassing defeat of Pakistan’s team against West Indies which resulted its exit from ICC’s World Cup T20 event.
Sethi reacted over the questions; said, ‘Either we don’t play semi-final match but still we are on 4 to 5 position.’
The PCB’s top official blamed the department’s management, selection board and coaching flaws for the surprised defeat of Pakistan’s cricket team in WT20 quarter finals.
Sethi vowed that PCB would make better decisions within next four months including appointment of ‘Best Fielding Coach’ and permanent physiotherapist.
While talking with local media, Sethi surprised everyone via his revelatory statement; said that the national cricket is entering into bankruptcy phase and it needs money for being activated.
He said that the issue of Big-3 in International Cricket Board (ICC) is captured his mind like a ‘Ghost’; and he has scheduled a visit to Dubai on April 7 for resolving the matter.
The PCB chairperson sees T20 skipper Muhammad Hafeez’s resignation from its captaincy as a brave decision. He said that Hafeez’s showed great bravery by getting responsibility of defeat and also cleared paths of the board for future.
Sethi rejected the speculations for pressurising former skipper Muhammad Hafeez for resignation. He clarified that the decision was solely made by Hafeez and he is presented himself to play on any position for the national team.
He said that the appointment of new T20 captain will take some time.
The chairperson was seen complaining about his ‘restricted powers’ in the PCB; said that he only have to look after chief selectors and other sectors of the board despite influencing their decisions except consultancy in few cases.
He further said that Pakistan Cricket Board is now focusing on preparations for upcoming tours of Australia and New Zealand, where Green Shirts would have to perform in One Day International (ODIs) and Tests formats.
Najam Sethi was also seen defending the star player Shahid Afridi, who conducted press conference after arriving on the country’s airport and provided some statements which created controversies in some sectors.
